Installing or Configuring Critical Update Notifier

To install the Critical Update Notifier for Windows 2000, NT, ME, 98, and 95:

1. Click on the 'Start' button.
2. Click on 'Windows Update' option (near the top of the menu).
3. This will open an Internet Explorer window pointed to Microsoft's product updates page. Click on the 'Product Updates' link.
4. Click the box marked 'Keeping Windows Up-to-Date Automatically' or 'Critical Update Notifier' (this procedure works with Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, and 2000 however notation differs slightly between operating systems)
5. Click 'Download' and follow the given instructions.
6. After installation, you will receive a notification of all new security updates. The notice will give you the option to install the fix.

To configure Windows Update for Windows XP:

1. Right-click on My Computer and go to Properties.
2. Click on the "Automatic Updates" tab.
3. Select the "Keep my computer up to date" checkbox so that there's a check in the box.
4. Click OK
